The mission of the Coastal Toxicology component is to help resolve pollution-related problems in California's coastal ecosystems. We accomplish this by facilitating new research endeavors by UC faculty, and by providing students with research support and interdisciplinary training in the broad area of environmental toxicology. Our two underlying goals, therefore, are to seek basic scientific advances and to better prepare young scientists to address California's present and future environmental problems.

Our research program aims to advance our ability to predict and ameliorate the ecosystem effects arising from the input of exogenous chemicals to coastal environments. Our educational focus is to instill in students an appreciation of the questions and approaches of the various, relevant disciplines and foster interdisciplinary interactions.
